Koodaaravalli is derivation of the term “Koodaarai Vellum Seer Govinda†from the Thirupaavai poem of Saint and incarnation of Sridevi, Andal Naachiyar. In the poem she exclaims the spirit of enjoying the sweetness of the offering made to Lord Govinda and enjoy the bliss of celebrating in His presence.
As a part of the tradition, this day is celebrated in all households with sweet Pongal or Akaara vadisal with floating ghee and singing this Thirupaavai paasuram.
